What is a Prayer

..............................................................................
Prayer is an appeal to a higher power, usually in the form of expressing a wish, expressing thanks, or even in the form of a conversation in which a person pours out his heart.
In every religion, prayer is part of the religious act. It appears that in ancient times, prayer was a spontaneous act of an individual, without a fixed time or form. Over the years, customs and special ceremonies developed and special prayer houses were built. Prayer is sometimes accompanied by particular gestures, such as kneeling, bowing down, raising hands, and so on. Some people believe that through prayer, it is possible to be freed from negative and bad thoughts and to exorcise harmful ideas.
Prayer can be personal prayer by an individual, or group prayer by many people (for example, a prayer for rain), but it must be genuine and from the heart.

Prayer in the major religions

In Christianity - Prayer is one of the foundations of the Christian religion. It has a fixed form, and through it, the worshipper expresses his personal requests. The liturgy of the Catholic church is also a part of prayer. Prayer is considered as a means of achieving a religious experience and of adhering to God.
In Judaism – The Jewish prayer book is called the Siddur (arrangement), probably because of its arrangement and editing of the prayers, and it contains within it the everyday prayers and national blessings. The festival prayer book is called the Machzor (Cycle), after the annual cycle of festivals. In Judaism, there are at least three prayers a day. The morning prayer is called Shacharit (Dawn) and it can be said from dawn until midday. The midday prayer is called Mincha (Afternoon), and it is said between noon and sunset; and the evening prayer is called Arvit (Evening), said from when the stars come out until dawn.
In Islam – Prayer is the second of the five fundamental precepts of the religion. Before praying, a purification ceremony must be carried out, washing the whole body and removing the shoes. Before starting to pray, the worshipper has to stand up straight and begin his prayers by declaring: “Allah Akbar” (Allah is great), bringing the worshipper into a state of grace.

The essence of prayer

Prayer is man’s attempt to draw closer to God by appealing directly to him.
